The OMR sheet is a special paper that consists of bubbles in the form of answer options. What really makes this paper special is that it possesses index points on its four corners. Due to these index points, the OMR software is able to read and evaluate a sheet when it is scanned. However, the sheet should remain in good condition if you want to receive accurate results. You have to make sure that there are no tears, folds or creases on the OMR sheet.
In certain cases, you may need to tear a part of the sheet. For certain exams, the candidates are allowed to carry a copy or counterfoil of the main sheet. In some others, they are given an acknowledgment card torn from the OMR sheet. Such tearing of OMR sheet is acceptable. Nevertheless, there are certain rules that you need to follow while doing so.
- Most OMR sheets have clear cutting line on it. Always use this line to tear the paper.
- A perforated line near or on the cutting line can also be used for tearing the paper.
- In case you have to tear a sheet from a booklet, do so from the perforated line only.
- Make sure that there are no tears on or near the index points.
- Printers should make sure that the perforation is of good quality. This would prevent any kind of damages to the paper.
These are some of the rules that you have to keep in mind in regards to tearing of OMR sheets. The sheets should be torn only from the space provided for this purpose. Tear marks anywhere else on the paper may make it difficult to scan.
